The only Catholic temple, existing in Voronezh, was blown up in 1963. The Rome-Catholic fellowship of Voronezh was registered in 1993. Throughout the ten years of the fellowship existence it was very seldom visited by priests from Kursk and Tambov.
In 2003 Friars Capuchin, who came there, for the first time, established by the monastery the parish in honor of the Holiest Intercessor Virgin Mary, that is accommodated in small chapel, in the house where the friars dwell.
In October of 2004, the chapel was consecrated by the Saratov diocese bishop Clement Pikkel. The parish is very diverse, it consists of Russians, Ukrainians, Polish, Byelorussians. The significant part of it consists of the foreign students from Africa and South America.
The major activities of the friars are aimed at preparation of the faithful to Sacraments and general catechesis of the parishioners. Besides that, the pastoral ministry and custody of the friars involve the whole territory of Voronezh and Byelgorod regions of Russia. |
