V I N N I T S Y A

The temple was founded by Lyudvik Kalinovski in 1745 and consecrated in 1761 by bishop Anthony Volovich. Twice during several years, the temple changed to parish. In the year of 1888 the monks were made to leave the monastery. The temple was not demolished under the condition that only diocesan priests would minister there.

1931. The Soviet authorities close the catholic temple. Vinnitsya Catholic church functioned without major obstacles until the Bolshevik coup. Particularly difficult times experienced Catholics of Vinnitsya headed by the priest Levinski in the twentieth of the twentieth century. First, the temple was plundered by the authorities and then in 1932 it was closed down and handed over to Aviakhim. The priest was arrested and sentenced to death, which he only miraculously escaped.

1948. Opened and restored at the time of German occupation the temple, even after the war was not closed. God's providence appointed a former Jesuit priest Martseli Vysokintski to minister Catholics of Vinnitsya. In the midst of great persecutions, this pastor was a witness of Christ in this long-suffering land up until his death in 1959.

1961. Secular people have lived in the monastery's rooms for a long time. The Vinnitsya temple also lost its sacral nature. Soviet regime took away the temple from the catholic fellowship and gave it to the atheistic society “Znannya” for a lecture-hall. The temple lost its antique architecture; the house of prayer, and the Word of God was turned into a training center for atheistic lecturers.

1990. A miracle happened. The suffering of Vinnitsya repressed Catholics, fasts, prayers and even picketing of the Cabinet of Ministers in Moscow retuned the temple to the Catholic fellowship and the people of Vinnitsya. The Catholic temple regained its wonderful appearance owing to the restoration according to the original design and consecrated by bishop Yezhi Dombrovski from Warsaw. In the beginning of restoration of the parish the pastoral ministry was carried out by the priests from The Society of Christ.

1992. Friars Capuchin returned to their monastery and continued the work of pastoral ministry the in the parish temple.

1999. Took place the first after the restoration concert of organ music, when the organ, that had been brutally destroyed by some orthodox people that had occupied the building of former philharmonic, where the organ had been kept was brought to life. After the parish was given practically scrap of the organ, the instrument was resurrected by Polish firm under supervision of organ specialist Yezhi Kukla.

Today the parish of the Angelic Mother of God has totally restored the temple.
